HISTORY OF MUSIC RECORDING
The first sound recording was made in 1877 by Thomas Edison who then released the Edison Phonograph 10 years later which was made using wax cylinders. 2 months later, the gramophone was released which used flat discs and could be used to change the speeds of the recording. The cassette tape was released in 1963 which was created by Phillips, this was constantly one of the two most common forms of pre-recorded music between the 1970s and 2000s. Sony then released the Sony walkman in 1979 which meant people could listen to music on the go. Compact discs (CDs) were released in 1981 by Sony and Phillips which offered the public a better sound quality. In 1988, moving pictures expert group (MPEG) was formed. The MPEG 1 was used for video CD's, MPEG 2 was used in DVD and MPEG 3 was created one year after the internet. Apple created the iPod in 2001 which allowed people to listen to MP3's on the go, 2003 was then the release of iTunes online. Youtube was launched on the internet in 2005 and is still the most popular website used for music.
