Shout Out To My Ex Textual Analysis

Image
Evidence of Andrew Goodwins theories are portrayed in Little Mix's Shout Out to My Ex music video, one of these is when the lyrics say 'I'm over it'. At this moment in time in the music video Jade holds a gun which says 'over it' under neath it. This was used to relate the music video to the lyrics, this was made with the use of camera as the camera has the focus on the gun in the middle and Jade to the right of the shot. This is also evident when Perrie says ' Yeah yeah, that hurt me, I'll admit '. In the music video she illustrates crying which usually happens when someone is hurt or upset. The way she does it shows how she doesn't care anymore and that she's over it. This then portrays the overall message of the music video/song. Although this part of the music video illustrates the lyrics, it also amplifies them as she shows her emotion  and overall sense of the song. E.Ann Kaplan and Andrew Goodwin both suggested that music vid...

Key Media Video Theorists

E. Ann Kaplan Key Text Rocking Around The Clock : Music Television, Post Modernism and Consumer Culture (1987) Key Points This text focussed on MTV and was published 5 years after MTV had launched. We were still 5 years away from the internet being 'born' and the world was a different place because of this. Remember that, at this time, if you wanted to watch a music video then you had to wait for it to be shown on a channel such as MTV (which not everyone had access to of course as it was a satellite channel) or one of the popular free to air music shows such as 'Top Of The Pops'.  As a consumer of music videos, you had no control over what you were shown which meant that channels like MTV could build up to 'event style' showings such as that for Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'.  Kaplan identified music videos as a post-modern form of the media. This means that they subverted of disregarded the expected conventions of film-making. For example, editin...

Me As A Consumer Of Music

I listen to music when I   am revising, doing homework, getting ready or driving and do this through an app on my phone or from YouTube  on my laptop. I like listening to music that is in the charts, this usually consists of pop and dance. My  favourite  artists are Jason Derulo, Justin Bieber, Little Mix and  BeyoncĂ© , I like these artists because I like their music and personality. Their music is very upbeat which I like. When I was younger, I listened to the radio in the car and watched music channels which influenced my taste in music. All of my friends listened to this genre of music which meant I   did too and could talk and listen to it together.  I don’t like songs that are full of rap although I do like songs that have a verse of two with rap which usually features another artist.  I'm not fond of slow songs such as classical or heavy metal as I  often can't understand what  they're saying and therefore can't sing along.  ...
